memory and time

Both of these were painted for my painting 3 class. The first, is a reaction to the idea of time. So What I did was painted whatever I thought of dealing with time over a certain period of time...I did a lot of time out chairs and timeless things...24"x36"

The second painting is a painting from memory...and my memory was to be trapped in a car with my family on the way to Indiana last year...entirely suffocated with stuff piled up and the outside being entirely open...I think this was 30"x36"

Flat

My professor told me to "Think of a concept" and I do not often do that. I was coming out of the phase where I would paint small 5"x7" paintings of either me or still life...four a week or so. She tells me to do something big...and this is what I came up with. Not only can I not remember the concept, but I remember specifically not really enjoying the concept that I came up with. But this is what it was. Abbey thought the mosquito was funny...because I found a mosquito and held it up for a while to figure out what a mosquito really looked like...and there was a consensus among most of my professors that they wished to see a little more light in them...however, this was the start of something new.

Final for Special Studies.

Don't ask me why, but I really wanted to paint a tornado for my final...and I really really wanted to do it on four panels. 20"x20" canvases with liquid matte acrylics.

Tin Foil

This project required us to react to a material. I chose tin foil (Yes I know I do not live in 1957, and these days it is called Aluminum foil...) I decided that rather than dealing with the surface texture or look of my material, that I would deal with human associations surrounding Tin foil. In that it is a material used in kitchens, and that it protects mainly from alien mind reading. These paintings are a series showing these two elements.

Self Portraits

Last semester, I did a project involving 36 self portraits. Following that same scheme, did six more...5"x7" oil on board.

All 5x7 inch paintings done on board of whatever I wanted.

Two lights

Not a fan of these in retrospect...but these are paintings done with one clear light, and one painting that is done without a clear light.

Systems Project

This project required me to pick a system to paint by, and stick with it for a semester. My system was to write for a half an hour and paint from the writings for under an hour.
